“When we opened Paloma, that was one of our focuses, ‘Ok, how can we do stuff differently for ourselves and our staff, and what can we provide for the community?’” Hughes said.
“I only played four games, but I think my biggest thing is that I wanted to experience winning a game as a Peacock [with Saint Peter’s]. And, you know, I did.”
“I can bring the fact that I’ve lived here all my life and [my] wisdom comes from experience. I’ve had triumph, I’ve had tragedy,” Bill O’Dea said. “… We used to say the time is now, [but] now we say it’s now or never.”
Despite the accomplishments, Williams said he tries not to brag too much and acknowledged that his upbringing and current reality are a “blessing.”
Mario Costa, owner of the diner which has been open since 1946, says he’s thrilled to have his business chosen for Bob Dylan’s biopic. “Oh I love it,” Costa told Slice of Culture. “It’s history, you know? … and it’s good for the diner. We’ve been here forever.”
“I started to write again and attend different open mics. After I had started to organize my own children events and my own community events. I thought to myself I could create a space where many poets will feel welcomed,” said Mocha Mic With Millie.
“By using soccer as a means to build stronger connections and a stronger community, we strive to create a vibrant and supportive network of players who share our passion for the game,” he told Slice of Culture.
“All the familiar faces, it becomes like more family than customers,” Mendes said. “Just makes it more homey.”
“People of color are very proud of where they come from…I think that’s part of our culture–the fact that this is ours, and Hudson County, there’s just something special about it… I think we learn to love where we’re from…,” Vargas told Slice of Culture.
