Thanks to the international success of this past fall’s “Hello, Love, Again,” another Filipino film is getting the chance to debut across the world, including Hudson County.

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” is a romantic comedy featuring Filipino stars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino who showcase the story of Sari (Chiu) and Jolo (Avelino).

Sari, cursed by love, lives in a building where she meets Jolo, a struggling landlord who has no interest; they connect as they work together to save the community from being displaced, but also catch feelings along the way.

The limited-time showing will be at Newport’s AMC theater in Jersey City starting this Thursday, March 27 until Wednesday, April 2.

“I think this movie—romance and comedy—it’s a Filipino thing that our culture really loves, about two people falling in love with each other,” Chiu told Variety. “It’s the best time for people to watch this in cinemas because there’s a lot of things happening around us, a lot of problems people are dealing with.”

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” marks the theatric debut of Chiu and Avelino, whose pairing is more casually known as “KimPau,” a “love team” name by Filipino fans. In Philippine media, a loveteam is an actor and actress who are put together in on-screen roles and depicted as a real, romantic couple. “KimPau” was first shown in their 2023 drama series, “Linlang.”

In another interview with Kron 4, Chiu said she’s thankful for “Hello, Love, Again” “for paving the way for another Filipino film to be showcased internationally.” The sequel film, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, set record as the highest-grossing Filipino film of all-time, even making noise at Jersey City’s AMC theater

And this won’t be the first time that Chiu is featured in Jersey City.

In 2018, the Chinese and Filipino singer, actress and television host, performed at the annual Philippines-American Friendship Committee (PAFCOM) Festival in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park.

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” will air at Newport’s AMC, also known as AMC Newport Centre 11,  with a 1-hour and 44-minute runtime in Tagalog with English subtitles. Showtimes and tickets can be found here and bought online or in-person at 30 Mall Drive W.
