Fitness, wellness and giving back — that’s what makes up Giving Back Sundays.

Giving Back Sundays is a non-profit organization, located in Bayonne, whose tagline is “Fitness with a cause.” The organization holds workout events one Sunday a month, but also pairs it with donation acceptances for different charities to a line with its “giving back” mission.

“The most important thing is to have fun and feel good (and do well) while exercising!” The organization said in a statement to Slice of Culture. “With the pandemic, many have struggled or are still struggling mentally, physically, and financially, so we wanted to do our part and found a unique way to help.”

Giving Back Sundays was founded by a trio of friends from Bayonne — of Korean, Hungarian, Colombian and Filipino descent — who share a love of fitness and giving back to the community.

Founded in 2020, the three have held numerous events and have gained much traction on social media, growing to 1,340 followers on Instagram. Their events have benefited other organizations like Black Men United and The Hoboken Shelter.

“When it comes to Sunday, some may consider it to be the end of the week or some would consider it the beginning of the week. Whether it’s a celebration of the week ending or the hopeful beginning of a fresh week, Sunday has been both and is a significant day to us,” the organization said.

“We wanted to share how much Sundays meant to us through a productive concept, thus becoming Giving Back Sundays.”

Starting the non-profit was a simple reason for them: they want to inspire others to do better and spread positivity, it said.

The trio are looking to do more with the growing support.

Their next event is on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Hudson County Park Track in Bayonne Park.

It’s a free event, which will start out with a HIIT session (High Intensity Interval Training) followed by yoga. They are collecting used and new book donations for Little Free Library, a book sharing movement with locations in Hudson County.

“The growth of Giving Back Sundays means the world to us,” it added. “Putting in all the effort and seeing how it is received by our community gives us the satisfaction that we are doing a great job and further motivates us to do more and more.”

“The more support we get, the more we can reach out with our mission to promote fitness as well as donate to those in need,” the organization said.
