Councilwoman Emily Jabbour Seeks New Position

In light of news that current Hoboken mayor Ravi Bhalla will not seek a third term, Hoboken Councilwoman Emily Jabbour has announced that she’s stepping up.

Jabbour announced her race for mayor of Hoboken this past week, saying she was “excited” to put her energy and experience to work..  

“I love this city and am so proud to call Hoboken home and raise our kids here with my husband, Peter,” Jabbour, a two-term city councilwoman, said. “As a mom, you better believe I’ve got a long to-do list with new ideas to continue improving our community and make Hoboken a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”

For over 18 years, Jabbour has worked as a civil servant for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Administration for Children and Families.

Jabbour started her federal career through the Presidential Management Fellows program and completed a six-month detail assignment with the United States House of Representatives as a Health Fellow for the Committee on Energy and Commerce, Health Subcommittee.

“We’ve got more work to do for better schools, safer neighborhoods, improved constituent services, public transportation that works for all of us, and real transparency and accountability in how decisions get made and taxpayer money gets spent,” Jabbour added.

Digging deeper into Jabbour’s background, she graduated from Boston College in 2003 with a B.A. in Psychology, and graduated from Columbia’s School of Social Work in 2006 with a Master of Science in Social Work with a policy focus and Law Minor. She is an active member of the Columbia Alumni Association, a member of the Social Work Dean’s Advisory Committee, and was recipient of the 2017 Columbia Alumni Medal for building community.

Other possible candidates for Hoboken Mayor include three city councilmembers: Michael Russo, the son of a former mayor; Ruben Ramos, a former assemblyman; and Tiffanie Fisher, a fellow Hoboken councilwoman.

Hudson Restaurant Week Returns For Its 20th Year

If you’ve been meaning to try new local eateries, now might be the best time.

Hudson Restaurant Week is an annual winter “culinary celebration” that promotes Hudson County as a “premier” dining destination in New Jersey, the website stated. The special two-week event is set to take place from Monday, Jan. 27 until Friday, Feb. 7.

Hudson County cities will have delicious discounted pre-fixe menus with local favorite dishes.

Hoboken has about 17 restaurants participating including Wicked Wolf Tavern, Brass Rail, Fat Taco, Sushi Lounge, Byrd and many more. 

Jersey City has the second most amount of restaurants participating with 13 establishments like South House, Hamilton Pork, Fire and Oak, Liberty Prime Steakhouse and more.

Weehawken, Bayonne, Guttenberg, Union City, North Bergen, Harrison and Edgewater—which is not Hudson County, but is close to North Hudson also have—restaurants participating in the event.

Jersey City Mayor To Address City On Status

In the final days of his term for Jersey City, Mayor Steve Fulop will deliver his 12th annual State of the City. It will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers and will be viewable to the public via livestream.

Last year, at his 11th address, Fulop highlighted the progress that the city has made during his tenure. He touched on a number of topics including affordable housing, which remains one of the biggest concerns for locals, arts and culture, public safety, parks and open space, transportation, recreation and more. Man Charged With Murder In Connection To Hudson County Shooting

This past Monday, Henry Delgado, 34, of North Bergen was charged with murder, disturbing/desecrating human remains and three weapons charges in connection to the death of Juan Moyet.

Moyet, the 48-year-old victim was found dead on Dec. 9, 2024 inside a second-floor home at 9028 Palisade Plaza.

Originally the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Moyet had suffered a head injury, but on Dec. 11, a post-mortem exam found that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and it was then classified as a homicide, prosecutors said.

Delgado was arrested in Union City and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility. He is currently awaiting a court appearance.

Support Harrison’s Students With A 2025 Calendar

Harrison Public Schools is looking to raise money to benefit its students and programs.

The Harrison Education Foundation is asking for donations of $20.25, and in return they will receive a 2025 calendar that shows and celebrates the history of Harrison from the 1880s, 1950s and even today.

Know A Hudson County Athlete That Should Be Recognized? You Can Nominate Them

Founded back in 1991, the Hudson County Hall of Fame has inducted athletes who have competed at the highest level of professional sports including the Olympic Trials, Boxing World Championships, the NFL and the NBA. 

The Hall of Fame honors remarkable men and women who “represent the very best of Hudson County.” 

“The role that sports play in the Hudson County community is critical to the growth of the camaraderie we share with one another, and Hudson County is proud to honor our amazing athletes for their dedication and success. We urge all residents from our 12 municipalities to nominate themselves and their family, friends or coaches to be a part of this great recognition of the time spent training, practicing and playing games,” County Executive Craig Guy said in a statement.

The 2024 Hudson County Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony was centerstage at Saint Peter’s University Duncan Family Sky Room where notable men’s college basketball coaches Danny and Bobby Hurley and former NFL player Kenny Britt were inducted.

Nominees must have a minimum of two years experience in Hudson County during grades 9 through 12 and are asked to provide their title, biography, remarks, headshots and all athletic accomplishments in a Hudson County high school, college or university and any professional experience. 

For each accomplishment photocopies for one of the following is required:

  • Newspaper articles
  • Certificates
  • Yearbooks
  • Annual awards
  • Dinner programs
  • Congratulatory letters
