NJ Transit knows your weekday commutes can be tough… so they’ve launched a new project to see how they can improve 🚏

We followed two commuters on their way to work to see what they go through on a day-to-day 🚍

“It will be nice if I can get to my house in less than an hour,” said Edith Zapata, who lives in Union City and works with Manrique. “I usually have to wake up at 5 a.m. to take the bus, and I don’t want a car. I can’t afford one.”

The road to a revamped Liberty State Park continues….. 🌳🚲⛹️‍♀️🐟🦆

Last Saturday, Jan. 25, the NJDEP hosted an Open House at Liberty Science Center to show the four different projects under the Liberty State Park Revitalization Program.

“For the most part I am absolutely thrilled and encouraged with the vision and the community engagement process it took to get here,” said Joshua Foss, a resident of Jersey City who spoke to Slice of Culture.

As of yesterday Jan. 30 at 11:59 p.m., the Hoboken

As of yesterday Jan. 30 at 11:59 p.m., the Hoboken PATH Station became closed to the public as infrastructure upgrades such as track and platform repairs, are set to begin as part of a $430 million PATH Forward program.

The station is set to open back up on Feb. 25 at 5 a.m.

➡️ In the meantime to assist commuters:

1. PATH will offer free shuttle bus service from Hoboken to the Newport and Exchange Place station.

2. More PATH trains will run between Newport and Exchange place on the NJ side during rush hours.

3. NJ Transit is set to increase the frequency of the No. 126 line, which runs from the Hoboken station to PABT.

4.NJ Transit also plans to add additional service on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail route on weekdays during rush hour.

5. NY Waterway Ferry is increasing its service & will run until 10 p.m. on weekdays & 11:59 p.m. on weekends at the Hoboken terminals. They will offer $3 tickets to PATH customers, which must be purchased on their app or at the ticket counters.

A woman and two children were pronounced dead early this morning in the Jersey City Heights.

The news follows two other homicides from this month, which included the death of Cianna Lee, 15, and Rahmiere Morris, 20.

Following news of an ICE raid in Newark, Hudson County residents have become weary of potential activity in their area.

“I am scared, I have lots of friends who are undocumented here, and not really sure how this will play out,” said one resident who wished not to be named due to fear of the recent ICE raid.

Last year, New Jersey experienced 655 car crashes

Last year, New Jersey experienced 655 car crashes with 18 occurring in Hudson County.

Research from state police reports shows that driver error, speeding and failing to yield to the “right-of-way” are the top three factors in these occurrences.

To eliminate traffic-induced fatalities and create safer streets in Hudson County, officials are introducing Vision Zero – an initiative to enforce road safety elements to promote responsible driver behavior.

The most powerful thing you can do is exist and create, and Guttenberg Arts is launching an art therapy program designed to “support youth in exploring identity, self-expression and emotional literacy through art.”

Program leaders, Mercy Villa and Rocky Tishma, spoke with Slice of Culture to talk about how students will mesh therapy and art techniques to navigate their way through self-discovery and creative self-empowerment, and how Guttenberg Arts is looking to fundraise to provide the program at no cost to 10 middle school and high school students. 🌟
