Kearny Native Marks Fourth Place Finish In Wrestling Championships
Jacob Cardenas, who grew up in Kearny and attended Bergen Catholic High School, ended his NCAA career last Saturday in Philadelphia with a recognition of All-American status.
Cardenas spent his first four years of college at Cornell University before he enrolled at the University of Michigan as a graduate student. He finished his season coming in fourth place at 197 pounds during the NCAA Championships this past weekend.

This is the second year in a row that Cardenas received fourth place and the third time total that he received All-American honors.
Cardenas ends his one season at Michigan with a 24-3 record and a Big Ten Championship title. His overall collegiate record is 95-25 spanning over five years.
During his high school career at Bergen Catholic, Cardenas won the NJSIAA state title at 195 pounds in 2018 and 2019.
He was also a member of Team USA at the U23 World Championships.
Golf Season Tees Off At Saint Peter’s Prep
The Saint Peter’s Prep golf team nabbed their second win of the season by 54 strokes with a 157-211 victory over the Dayton Bulldogs. This win puts the Saint Peter’s Marauders at 2-2 for the season.

The Marauders take the golf course next on Monday at 4 p.m. against Dwight-Englewood.
Bayonne Blows Past Dickinson To Open Baseball Season
Bayonne stormed past Dickinson with a 12-0 victory in five innings this past week.
Jadie Estevez led the team by scoring three runs and drove in two for Bayonne. The team scored six runs all together in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Jerome Hayes Jr. doubled and drove in a run, as Luke Eckert went 1-for-1 and scored two runs.
Winning pitcher Jack Pozo struck out eight batters in just three innings. Brandon Young Freire struck out four batters in two innings of relief.

Saint Peter’s Prep Lacrosse Team Comes Out On Top In Season Opener
The Saint Peter’s Prep Marauders started their season hot as they completed the comeback to beat Glen Ridge 12-9 on Wednesday, April 2 at their season opener.

Will Kohl led the way with 4 goals, Sawyer Briamonte & Jack Halleron had hat tricks, with Ryan Murphy & Jacob Holicki adding goals also. Will Kohl led the Marauders with four goals, while Sawyer Briamonte and Jack Halleron each had hat tricks with three goals. Ryan Murphy and Jacob Holicki also knocked in some points.
Defensively, goaltender Nick Malloy made eight saves.
The Marauders will look to continue their hot start to the season as they take the field against Blair academy on April 8 at 4:30 p.m. This game will also serve as their home opener.
Saint Peter’s Prep Baseball Storms Past Ferris In Victory
After a rocky start to their season the Saint Peter’s Marauders beat Ferris 9-1 this past Monday.
Logan Chi went three-for-three with two RBIs to lead the team to their second win of the season. While Ray Stein pitched five shutout innings with 9 Ks.
